Frequently asked questions
What does 400/1 A mean?
With 400 A flowing in the primary conductor, the transformer delivers 1 A to the meter or measuring device – a ratio of 400:1. Meters and instruments are set to this CT ratio. The 1 A secondary keeps cable losses low on long measuring lines.
How much burden (VA) do I need?
The rated burden must cover the consumption of the connected devices plus the losses of the measuring line, without being much higher. The types listed here offer 0.2–10 VA. The VA calculator determines the value. VA calculator →
Which accuracy class?
For 400/1 A the classes 0.2, 0.2 S, 0.5, 0.5 S, 1 and 5P5–10P10 are available here. Billing-relevant metering requires class 0.5 or better; for display and monitoring class 1 is usually sufficient. Accuracy class comparison →
